Course overview
Moving and positioning is a daily part of care — and when it’s done well, it protects the person you’re supporting, protects staff from injury, and helps maintain dignity and comfort. This two-day programme follows the All Wales Manual Handling Passport Scheme and gives learners a consistent, practical approach they can use confidently in real working environments.
You’ll develop an understanding of why techniques work (body mechanics, load, balance and posture), and then apply that knowledge through supervised practice. The course focuses on safe decision-making as much as hands-on skill: choosing the right method, using equipment correctly, and knowing when to stop and reassess.

- Anatomy and physiology of the musculoskeletal system
- Principles of manual handling and safer movement
- Practical lifting, moving and positioning techniques
- Using aids and equipment (including hoists and slide sheets where appropriate)
- Risk assessment, dynamic decision-making and documentation
