Course overview
This course gives you the knowledge, practical competence and training delivery skills to teach Moving and Positioning of People to staff in line with UK standards. For organisations in Wales, it also supports delivery in line with All Wales Passport expectations, helping you provide consistent, high-quality training across teams.
You’ll build a strong technical understanding of moving and positioning and learn how to deliver engaging sessions, assess competence, and support learners with different experience levels. The course is designed for people who will be delivering training internally and need the confidence to teach, observe, correct technique and evidence competence appropriately.

Course content
- Effective training delivery and assessment skills
- Principles of manual handling
- Legislation, policies and procedures
- Anatomy and musculoskeletal disorders
- Proactive prevention of musculoskeletal injury
- Safe lifting, moving and positioning techniques
- Use of equipment and aids for moving and positioning
- Risk assessment and management (including dynamic decision-making)
All training is delivered by sector-experienced, qualified trainers who have both worked and taught in health and social care. Sessions are supportive and practical, with plenty of opportunity to discuss real workplace scenarios and ask questions.
Assessment
There is assessment during and at the end of the programme to ensure you are fully prepared to deliver training confidently. This typically includes a risk assessment scenario, multiple-choice questions, and a teach-back (short delivered segment) so you can demonstrate training skills as well as subject knowledge.
