Course overview
Our Prevention and Management of Violence and Aggression Refresher course is designed for health and social care staff who need to revisit practical skills in prevention, de-escalation and safer responses. It supports organisations that want to maintain confidence, consistency and safer decision-making across teams without repeating a full initial programme where refresher development is more appropriate. Our PMVA Refresher training is certified by BILD ACT as complying with the Restraint Reduction Network Training Standards, helping organisations choose refresher training linked to recognised standards and safer practice.
This is PMVA refresher training in South Wales built around the realities of health and social care. In many services, staff need regular opportunities to revisit how they recognise distress, respond early, de-escalate effectively and reduce risk while protecting dignity, safety and wellbeing.
The programme helps learners refresh both knowledge and practical confidence. That includes revisiting triggers and escalation, strengthening communication and de-escalation strategies, reinforcing safer professional responses and, where appropriate, refreshing safer disengagement or breakaway skills in a way that remains proportionate, lawful and focused on reducing harm.

Why this refresher matters
Good PMVA refreshers are about much more than repeating technique. In care settings, staff need opportunities to revisit safer responses, rebuild confidence, update judgement and reinforce how prevention and communication can reduce risk before situations escalate.
Refresher training also helps organisations maintain consistency. It supports teams to use shared approaches, reinforces safer decision-making and helps prevent practice from drifting over time.
